Amsterdam: Everything you need to know

Loved everything about this city, the people, the food, the bars, and the service! I’d recommend visiting during Spring.

Where to eat in Amsterdam

Izakaya

The name speaks for itself, located in the Sir Albert hotel is this amazing Japanese Izakaya. Highly recommended, both food quality and service are excellent.

Recommended dishes:

  • Salmon, Yellow Tail & Seabass sashimi with Yuzu Soy
  • Tuna Tartare on cripsy rice
  • Beef Tataki with onion ponzu and garlic chips
  • Salmon Nigiri
  • Spicy Tuna Uramaki
  • Rock Shrimp

The Harbour Club

Located by the water. Huge space, really cool – service, decoration, atmosphere & food. They offer lunch, dinner and open at night as a night club. I loved the art there, and the concept of the whole place. They have a comprehensive menu, I recommend:

  • Beef Tataki
  • Sashimi
  • Tomahawk steak and french fries.

(other things on the menu must be great but this is what I tried).

The Harbour Club Amsterdam

Street Food near Dam square

The street food is actually quite good you should walk around and explore what there is and just pick up food from wherever you like. I stopped for french fries, nachos and a nutella bar.

4 Things to do in Amsterdam

Amsterdam was amazing! A lot to do there and it’s a very active city. We were there in the winter so it was quite cold however, we still had a blast! Other than the Coffee shops that everyone must at least experience once (if you’re not into the treats you can just grab a chocomel), these are some of the activities I can assure you, you’ll enjoy!

Heineken Experience

Both educational and fun, depending on what you want to make it. You can learn abotu hwo the beer is made or skip that part and go straight to the tasting room then writing your own message or name on a bottle. Engraving a Heneiken glass, taking photos in the photobooths, playing games or going to the rooftop where there’s a dj and a bar serving wine and beer, and a grill where you can order burgers.
*Strongly advise you to buy your tickes in advance online to avoid lining up*

Museum of Sex

An intriguing experience, some parts were a bit too graphic. I preferred the one in New York City. Too many stairs!

I didn’t get the chance to visit the following however, they were recommended by close friends!

Van Gogh Museum

Anne Frank’s House

Nightlife in Amsterdam

Going out in Amsterdam is great! A lot of different options and you can always ask your hotel concierge to book you a table to guarantee no waiting time at the door!

Jimmy Woo

R&B / Hip Hop was the genre the night I went but I was told that it really depends on the night. I enjoyed myself even though I’m not the biggest R&B/Hip Hop fan. Funky decoration, loved the artwork – the neon lights made it seem like there was something super tabboo going on downstairs but it was just the club, upstairs was more loungey and the music wasn’t as loud. Advise you to make sure you’re on a guest-list or book a table to guarantee entry.

Nova

R&B/Hip Hop but I was told it changes as well depending on the night. The door outside was super packed when we arrived. Put yourself on guest list or book a table to guarantee entry.

Chicago Social Club

They have a deep house room and a Reggae room. Be sure to call and put yourself on the guest list to guarantee entry.

All these 3 clubs are right next to each other so it seems like Leidsplein is the place to be at night.

*Please note that things might have changed since my date of travel* Feb 2016

Although this isn’t nightlife it’s a form of partying so I’m slipping it in here!

“Not Your Mothers Sunday Brunch” – Izakaya

We came back to IZAKAYA for the supreme brunch on Sunday, a special event they host with a DJ and entertainers. I loved the cocktail menu, I had the strawberry Bellini which was great. The service was also amazing at the bar despite how crowded it was and we had an amazing time.
